Ok, here it goes, Noobs:
1)First of all, download the 0.7 version at
http://downloads.freenetproject.org/freenet-pre-07-alpha-nojava.exe You need a working Java version (preferably the latest and the one of Sun) on your PC. Some download-progress bars and installement-popups will appear. If you don't have a hostname, or do not whish a specific portnumber (this maybe useful if you have a NAT, however), or simply do not know what to do, don't change anything, and just klick on 'next', until it's finished with the installement. (see
Ubernoob Pic 1)
2)Then, be sure to have the latest updated 0.7 version! This is very important, and should be checked frequently (even if you only downloaded it no more then half an hour ago). This is, because it's currently in full (and rapid) development, and versions that are a few versions older can already be obsolete - which means you can't connect to new (nodes) ones. To update, go to 'Program Files', 'Freenet', klick on 'update.cmd'. (see
Ubernoob Pic 2)
3)Thirdly, add refs. Go to
http://127.0.0.1:8888/darknet/ (you can also find it by clicking on the link 'darknet' in the upperleft-corner of the main Freenet Fproxy Homepage); the refs should be added in the textbox below ('reference:'). Refs can be found at
Refs List, or ask around in the Freenet-refs irc-chan. (see
Ubernoob Pic 3)
4)Note that to establish a connection in 0.7, TWO parties need to be connected; thus, you not only need someone elses' refs, he/she must also add yours. It's therefor useful to add your own refs to the
Refs List as well, so other people can add it to their darknetlist. (see
Ubernoob Pic 4)
I've made some screenshots for ubernoobs, but this page should suffice. If noobs still think this page can use some extra clarification, please be my guest to ask (preferably on the
Comments Page).
Thank you.
